Avalon Regionals

Avalon Regionals is scheduled for Jan 17-18th with completed registration forms due back very soon. The fee is $47 of which each skater is responsible for. You MUST pass in your fee and complete your form this Wednesday, Dec 10th, during the skating session as forms are being mailed the next day as it is so close to Christmas and may be otherwise overlooked.  Forms will be available at the arena tomorrow, skaters and their parents are responsible for completing, you may print off your own at Skate Canada NL site. We will print off a copy of the skater's Skate Canada Cards. The executive will NOT be taking responsiblity for completing forms for the skaters so please arrange to have this done tomorrow.

Final Session prior to Christmas Break

Next Monday, Dec 15th will be the final Learn-to-Skate and CanSkate session and Wednesday, Dec 17th will be the final Junior session prior to our Christmas break. Skaters may bring a friend to the Learn-to-Skate and CanSkate session but we ask that you notify us  prior to this to arrange insurance. Santa will be skating by to visit with the kids! We will resume the normal session on Jan 5th, 2009

Christmas Skate

Thank-you to those parents who donated food items to our hospitality room for the SSFSC Christmas Skate. Big thanks is also extended to our our volunteers who worked hard to ensure our competition ran smoothly especially those people who are not associated with the club; we could not have done it without you!

Southern Shore Christmas Skate

Our club is hosting a competition on Dec 6th and we are asking all parents to contribute a food item for our hospitality room.  Please drop off your items to the arena Saturday morning or to an executive's home Friday night. We also need parents to donate sometime on Saturday helping out in the hospitality room or selling tickets.

Cookie Dough

Our cookie dough is ready for distribution. Please have all monies collected, if not already done so, along with your order sheet and bring along to skating this coming Monday, December 1st.  If you are unable to attend skating on Monday, please have someone show up to pick up your order.

The winner of the webkinz prize for most orders was Mackenzie Tee who sold a WHOOPING 67 tubs of cookie dough!! Thank-you to all skaters and parents who participated in this fundraiser. We needed this revenue in order to keep the fees down to a reasonable price.

Fundraiser

Forms were given out at skating last night and e-mailed to others who were not present; please contact one of the executive if you did not receive an order form. We are asking that all families sell a minimum of 6 tubs of cookie dough which is priced at $10.00/tub.  Please have your orders back by Nov. 12th so that gives us plenty of time to get delivered prior to Christmas.

Please Note: The makers of the cookie dough, Bonte Foods, does not use peanuts in their products however one of their suppliers may have peanuts in their facilities therefore we will caution that products may contain traces of peanuts.

Skating Competition!

Our club has decided to host the first annual "Southern Shore Christmas Skate" on December 6, 2008. We hope this will be a great success and will be calling upon parents and skaters to help during this event. More details to follow.

Fundraiser

We will be passing out forms for cookie-dough fundraiser at the next session. We ask that everyone please participate and sell a mimimum of 6 items. There will be a prize offered to the skater that sells the most! We need to have this revenue so that we can continue to offer these programs at such low rates. Thank-you.

"Bring a Friend" to skate on Monday, Oct 27th.

Dress up in your Halloween costume but remember safety on the ice ( make sure you can see and you won't trip up). Make sure you contact us by Monday morning at the latest so that we can purchase extra insurance for the guest skaters.

Helmet Recall

Health Canada has issued a notice with respect to a recall on certain models of RBK and CCM helmets. It has been found that the chin strap of the recalled helmets may disengage and the helmet can fall off, posing a potential safety hazard. For complete information on this recall and corrective action that can be taken please visit the Health Canada Website. BMO Sectionals announcement is now available on-line. Deadline of October 2nd is a strict one, as Skate Canada wants the entry information from hosting club on October 3rd.
